What does your Facebook fan page name tell users? Does it immediately communicate what they will find in your posts? If not, it is worth considering changing the name completely or polishing it. Below we show you, step by step, how to change the name of your Facebook fan page.
In what situations might it be necessary to change the name of a fanpage?
- when we change the company name,
- when we want to expand the name,
- or when we combine two separate fanpages.
How to change the name of a fanpage – a step-by-step guide
On the main page of the fanpage, click on the "Information" menu:
Then in the "Name" section, click "Edit":
You will see the name editing window:
Notice the Facebook hints highlighted in green and red. Change the name in the highlighted box and click "Continue."
Now Facebook will show a message that it may take a few or a dozen days to approve the change. If the change is minor, or if you are adding one or two words to an existing name, Facebook should approve it right away.
Gradual change of fanpage name
If you change it completely, it is better to do it gradually. Do the same if you connect a fanpage. I will give you an example of a real change that I made for a certain Association.
There were two fanpages: one called "Osiedlove" and the other "I am the City". Both had the same theme, only "Osiedlove" was a grassroots initiative, informal, while "Jestem Miastem" was created from "Osiedlovy", where a group of people decided to create a formal association. After some time of operation, "Jestem Miastem" wanted to merge both fanpages so as not to lose some fans.
How to completely change the name of a fanpage
Facebook allows two fanpages to be merged if they do not differ in name. So we had to change the name of “Osiedlovy” first. We did it gradually:
- first we submitted an application to Facebook to change the name to "Osiedlove - Jestem Miastem". After approval, we waited about 15 days,
- and we changed our name again. This time to "I am the City".
And only now could we start connecting the fanpages.
Keep this in mind when you completely change your name. Be patient and read Facebook's guidelines carefully (third screenshot).
