CONTEXT
Pilipalili is a drink bar in Tarnów that specializes in signature cocktails. The place stands out for its creative approach to classic drinks and the use of the highest quality ingredients. The place is also known for the possibility of using shisha. It focuses on providing extraordinary taste experiences in an intimate atmosphere.
GOALS
The client asked us to create the entire concept of a new signature cocktail menu. The goal of our collaboration was to discover their common elements in terms of ingredients, appearance and flavors, and then design a coherent narrative that would emphasize the romantic and ethereal nature of these drinks.
SCOPE OF WORK
- Development of a creative concept for the cocktail menu, including selection of names and inspirations.
- Preparation of copy and graphic materials for promotional purposes.
- Preparation of the concept and organization of the photo session, taking into account the climate and atmosphere.
- Development of guidelines for a printed cocktail menu for a graphic designer.
Development of a creative concept for a cocktail menu
We received information about the ingredients of the drinks from our client. During the workshops at KomuKoncept, we noticed that the drinks are strongly associated with gardens, romanticism and subtlety. Importantly, we wanted an idea that would allow for the free use of works (sounds, poems, images), in accordance with the applicable copyright law. So we decided on the Young Poland period as the main inspiration, because it combined elements of aestheticism, symbolism and vitalism, which perfectly matched the nature of the drinks offered.
When developing the cocktail concept, the key task was to give them names that would reflect their character and literary and pictorial inspirations. Inspired by works from the Young Poland period, we created names that introduced guests to a mysterious atmosphere.
For example, the name "Chopin, if he were still alive, he would be drinking" refers to "Wesele" by Stanisław Wyspiański, "Melodia mgieł" to a poem by Kazimierz Przerwa-Tetmajer, and "Pomarańczarka" to a painting by Gierymski.
Photo session
We developed a detailed concept for a photo shoot that would capture the ethereal vibe of cocktails. Our search for inspiration was diverse, and each drink had its own unique photographic vision.
Playing with light, twilight, smoke and fog are elements that were intended to create a moody atmosphere. The photos perfectly reflect the character of the drinks that are served at Pilipalili.
Development of guidelines for a printed cocktail menu
We prepared pages that contained descriptions of each drink, their inspirations, and references to literary and painting works. How? Before each item there was a page with its inspiration. For example, before the drink "Pomarańczarka" we could see a painting by Gierymski of the same title.
These lines also appear at the opening and closing of the card, creating a coherent narrative.
Each page of the menu was thought out to attract attention and reflect the spirit of Young Poland. We worked with a graphic designer who designed the menu based on our guidelines, taking care of aesthetics and functionality.
Preparing posts promoting the new tab
Our task was also to prepare promotional materials that were to effectively present the new cocktail menu. We created posts and reels that showed not only the offer, but also the atmosphere and experience of tasting at Pilipalili.
Sample posts:
“Question of the day:

Wrong answers only 😎”

🖼️ ORANGE refers to Gierymski's painting of the same title. You may also come across the name "Jewess with oranges".
🖼️ The painting is one of many in Gierymski's cycle, which depicted the lives of the Jewish inhabitants of Powiśle and other poor districts of Warsaw.
🖼️ The work was stolen during World War II and returned to Poland in 2011. You can see it at the National Museum in Warsaw.

Summary
The promotion of the new cocktail menu at Pilipalili was a success, as evidenced by its extension by 4 months, as well as the response from customers who liked some of the drinks so much that they couldn't imagine the menu disappearing.
For us, this project also had a special meaning – not only because of the opportunity to try all the delicious cocktails, but also because of the intensely creative process of creating the concept. Working on combining the aesthetics of Young Poland with a unique taste experience was an inspiring challenge that resulted in an extraordinary effect.
